The Religious Education/Learning for Life and Work Department of Portora has seen a significant over-hall in its curriculum and development of learning opportunities for all young people at Portora. The curriculum now successfully incorporates the 4 statutory curriculum subjects of Religious Education, Citizenship, Personal Development and Employability identifying clear cross curricular themes, thus promoting and sense of relevance and as a consequence clear pupil engagement. As a department, our aim is to empower our young Portorans to make informed and justified choices in their lives whilst delivering a curriculum that promotes our school ethos of learning, personal endeavour and respect.

The introduction of a Religious Education GCSE 'Short course' for all year 10 pupils has proved to be a great success, allowing us to boast some excellent results. In August 2014 34% of all year 10 boys achieving grades A*-A, 72% A*-B and 90% A*-C.
