GCSE Options Process

This academic year’s GCSE options process will take place during February 2015. As part of this process there will be a number of stages involved to support both pupils and their parents in selecting the most appropriate curriculum pathways for the future.

At Portora, all pupils study a Core 5 GCSEs; English, Double Award Science, Mathematics & Learning for Life and Work. Pupils are then required to choose a further four subjects from four curriculum blocks. In addition to this, some pupils will have the opportunity study G.C.S.E Further Maths and G.C.S.E Drama.


Key dates for 2015

January 28th – Y10 Parent/Teacher meetings and explanation of the options process

January 29th – All pupils will be issued with Preliminary Option Choices 1 and Courses Brochure.

February 6th – All Preliminary Option Choices 1 should be returned to school.

March 23rd – All pupils will be issued with Option Choices 2 (Option blocks).

March 27th – All Option Choices 2 should be returned to school.

In order to support pupils with their choices and Personal Career Profiles, each year 10 pupil will receive a careers interview with one of the school’s careers guidance teachers during the months of January and February. Should any pupil and/or parents require further support or guidance with the decision making process, additional meetings can be organised with both the school careers department and Mr K Maguire, DELNi Careers Advisor.
