After a monumental effort by Hubert Schaafsma and the editorialteam ofMiles Henry, Ian Burn and Ian Scales we aredelighted to say that the book is now available to order.

The book is right up to date and includes photographs of the celebrationsduring the Quater centenary party. You might also note the cover showingboth a modern and turn of the 19th century view of the Schoolsitting on its hill above the Erne.

The School is handling the cash collection and dispatch of the books,and the person who deals with this is Fiona Johnston (who can be contacteddirectly by email on fjohnston975@c2kni.net ); cheques should be made outto Portora Royal School. Books will be dispatched only once payment hasbeen received.

The net size of the book is 305 x 228 mm and has 256 pages all printedin colour, bound as a high quality hardback book with coloured end papers.

These pens have been crafted locally by wood turner Brendan Bannonwho is based in the Butternarket, Enniskillen. 


The wood is from anumber of Yew trees which had to be felled in July 2007 in order to carryout work to widen the front avenue leading up to the school.

These samples have been produced to let you see the styles/sizesbefore ordering As you can see even from the Three samples here the grain and colour can vary significantly with the darker colours coming from the centre of the tree and the lighter colour nearer the bark

The5 Royal Schools will celebrate the 400th anniversary of theirfoundation in 2008.The schools have joined together to form a companylimited by guarantee known as ʻThe 1608Royal Schoolsʼ to prepare for aʻYear  of Celebrationʼ in 2008,Theabove publication is a major part of that celebration.

The book brings together within one volume the histories of each schoolsince the irfoundation. It is published as a ʻnot for profitʼ book primarilyfor current pupils, past pupils, friends of the schools and thoseinterested in the histories of the schools.
